The Heart of the Ninkear S14 Laptop — AMD Ryzen Revealed

A compact laptop that will be convenient for work or study is a 13-14 inch. We are more inclined to modern 14-inch models, as they easily fit into small bags and are quite light. The Ninkear S14 laptop is no exception to this rule - it's an affordable option weighing just 1kg, with USB-C PD 65W charging, and based on the R5-7535HS processor. The review will include disassembly and tests.

Design and P ackage content

As a matter of fact, the Ninkear S14 laptop is a budget class, suitable for both schoolchildren / students and remote work from home or for the office. The packaging is a presentable cardboard box with a network charger, a USB cable, as well as a set of stickers that allow you to make your "car" recognizable.

The laptop is very, very light, even in its class of 1 kg - this is 30% lighter than most Ultra-Books (not all, we are talking about mass models). Sometimes we forget that we have it with me in my bag, along with a folder with documents, this laptop. The body is a silver plastic aluminum, with a modest logo in the corner, quite thin (16 mm) and durable (does not creak).

As we said, the kit included a USB-C PD 65W charger with a cable. The laptop can also work/recharge from external batteries (choose PD 65W and more powerful), as well as from third-party chargers (both - checked). Also in the box with the laptop there was a user manual (in Russian but also available in other language including English). From the useful - the addresses of local service centers.

Interfaces

The set of connectors is classic - on the left there is a pair of USB Type-C 3.2 Gen2 and HDMI, on the right there is a USB 3.0, audio (AUX hybrid), another USB Type-C, as well as a slot for a security lock. Inside Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. There is no card reader or LAN connector in this model, but USB adapters or port/dock extensions can be used.

Keyboard

The keyboard has a Cyrillic layout, without a Num block, but with support for fingerprint unlock (it works quickly) and a backlit keycap case. The buttons are low-profile, it is convenient to type (this text was typed from this S14 model, in our free minutes from work).

Webcam

Webcam with a resolution of 1080p (2 MP), there is a mechanical shutter. It works fine in zoom / video conferences - more than enough for us.

General information

Screenshots of system and display properties. The standard display is 2.2K@60Hz, we have an external display at a frequency of 144Hz. On the official site you can find drivers for this model, including the system image.

Testing

This model has a rather successful BOE NV140DRM-N67 IPS matrix (Product Code: BOE0D0A) with an aspect ratio of 16:10. With this resolution, 2 documents are placed side by side (not 100%, but it is convenient to work).

The screen folds out completely (it's a pity that it is not touch). If Ninkear were to release a similar touchscreen model, we would love to take it. The viewing angles of the display are more than decent - the photo above.

The calibrator shows 100% sRGB coverage. This is a very decent result - the laptop can be used in design and for working with photos/layouts/models.

Brightness of about 500 cd/m2 by 14 inches is good, we usually make 70% of the brightness of the maximum, we turn the maximum only when working outside. The backlight is not "shimit" (No Risk when measuring modulation).

4K video plays without slowdowns, 3D editors run normally, there is enough memory to work with photos. we attach test images in order to assess color reproduction.

The gaming capabilities of the iGPU are modest, mainly you need to lower the graphics settings (720p/Low).

The drive is a solid "four" in terms of speed, or rather, CDM shows almost the speed ceiling for PCIe 3.0x4.

Stress Test, Heating and Noise

The choice of processor for this laptop is interesting. These are 6 cores, 12 threads, turbo dust up to 4.55 GHz. TDP 35 ... 54 W (this is already in boost), 6 nanometer process technology (FinFET). The stress test takes place without throttling, it confidently keeps 100% of the load on the CPU for the whole hour without signing or lagging. During the test, the TDP was in the range of 25 to 40 watts, judging by the graph.

The noise level during operation is about 40-42 dB (when loading, in economy mode during normal use, you can't hear much). There is no obvious overheating of the case, the only point is a noticeable heating in the upper part of the keyboard (F4-F6 keys) to 45-46 degrees. But then again, that's after all the tests and an hour of full loading. In normal mode, everything works much quieter and does not heat up so obviously.

Disassembly and upgrade

Now for the interior. It is easy to disassemble, everything is quite compact inside. The battery occupies almost half of the volume of the entire internal space. On the right side, you can see an M.2 SSD size 2280 based on the Maxio MAP1202 controller (SSD model Faspeed P8-1TB-LB1).

The RAM is of the LPDDR5X type and is soldered on the board next to the processor. Alas, it will not be possible to upgrade the RAM. We note that these are Rayson RS1G32LO5D2FDB-31BT chips for 6400 MHz. We will also note two heat pipes and one "snail" for cooling. With the declared TDP of ~ 35 watts, it copes.

The CDTech wireless module is CDW-61851BE, although the system shows in the RealTek RTL8851BE report. It is dual-band WiFi 6 plus BT5.3. Battery 5195 mAh (60.01 Wh) at 11.55V.

Conclusion

A normal office laptop, with the possibility of upgrading and with decent specifications. The 100% sRGB matrix alone gives this model a head start among most representatives in this class. We also appreciated the possibilities of upgrading - with little blood, you can make a configuration with 2 TB from a laptop. On the plus side, we would like to note USB-C charging and the ability to work with two external monitors at the same time. The increased battery and modest weight (1 kg) are a big plus of this model. It is quite possible to work for 7-8 hours on a single charge, if you work in economy mode and save the backlight, but do not forget about the possibility of working from external batteries (USB-C).
